The Obamessiah Complex

August 15th, 2008 by Republican By Default

I guess someone had to say it. But it wasn’t those dastardly Evangelicals. It was CNN and a liberal who runs an anti-Christian Web site.

His Web site, beliefnet.com, promotes just about any religious belief you can find out there along with a bunch of stuff that doesn’t even qualify as a religion. The site even pretends to include Christianity, but in fact they only include the lamest versions of it, alternatives to it or plain old trash-talk about it.

When you contrast this to the media’s portrayal of Obama, they were the ones who started this issue. I think this blast against “Evangelicals” is just the next step in the progression as they advance their agenda of getting the Democrat nominee elected to office.

While the Obamessiah-Antichrist kerfuffle doesn’t even begin to support the idea that Barack Obama is the antichrist, it does illustrate that the world is once again ripe for just such a scam.

The messiah scam isn’t new. It’s probably the basis of many world religions. People are always looking for the great being that will lead them into a paradise that lines up with their values and beliefs. Whether it be a world at peace or a world dominated by followers of their religion, there’s a version of it for almost everyone. Even atheists and agnostics have their brave new world.

I believe the reason that people look for this type of messiah is the fact that God made man with the ability and the desire to worship Him. And rightly so. He deserves it. But when someone doesn’t have Him in their life, they look to worship someone or something else. Whether it be a statue, a celebrity, some nebulous invisible spirit that inhabits some object or anyone they look up to it’s easy for people to find a replacement.

While this ‘instinct’ inside us drives us to seek the true God, it’s also frequently exploited. Whether it be someone trying to start a religion, an abuser trying to gain the upper hand in a relationship or someone trying to get elected to public office, there’s always the temptation to lie and exploit the deep need in man to find his God.

For a little background on the idea of an antichrist, when in the master’s program in Bible College we did a brief study of the scriptures about the antichrist in the Bible. I won’t go very deep into it but the basic concept is that the Greek preposition ‘ante‘ has a rough meaning of ‘in the place of’ or ‘over against’.

We think of ‘anti’ as being oppositional because it illustrates that two things vie for the same position. So the ‘antichrist’ is trying to take the position that Christ has in the world. That, of course, is an impossibility and he will eventually fail, leaving in his wake destruction like the Earth hasn’t seen since the flood.

I’m sure there are some Christians who wonder if Barack Obama is the antichrist, but there aren’t many. Why? Mostly, I think, because the guy is just plain lame.

The antichrist is going to take over the world. Obama is an empty suit. He got elected in his district to represent them in the state. Then, when he was doing little or nothing in that office, he decided to run for the U.S. Senate and lucked out by running against a guy who would fall to a scandal (perpetrated by a leftist newspaper reporter). Not exactly the stuff of legend.

And actually, I think the dumb idea that Bill Clinton was the antichrist was a better fit. He had a lot more on the ball than Barry does. But still not enough. He also had a lot more ‘anti-christ’ behavior than this little knockoff. Regardless, both are dumb ideas.

So, is Barry trying to be the messiah? I don’t know. Maybe he’s fallen into the trap laid by the media. Maybe he believes his own hype. But it really doesn’t matter. There’s no Ross Perot to help him defeat his opponent. And after he loses he’ll be tossed aside by the media like any other candidate, rising up only if they advance a new agenda that parallels the media’s.

And the media will protect the image they’ve created until it becomes impossible. They’ll even try to dismiss a ‘love child’ scandal if it will keep their investment in the running for the next media campaign.

Beliefnet.com and Obama. Why ask why?

If people don’t believe the Bible as the revelation of God’s nature and character, if people don’t see the Bible as a guidebook for life, then it’s usually not the case that they believe in nothing—They believe in anything.

Beliefnet.com and Obama have nothing to offer the Christian community. They are the same type of false teachers that the Apostle Paul warned his contemporaries about in the 1st century.

And now with all the advances in science I find it amazing that Obama can’t even offer an opinion as to what point an unborn child has rights. In fact I haven’t even heard him refer to an unborn child as a child, as a human being.

Maybe Obama should take a refresher course in U.S. History. It wasn’t so long ago that this country imported Africans and sold them into slavery. Those slaves had no human rights because they were not officially called humans. They were property.

When is Obama going to start officially calling an unborn child a human? Why doesn’t Obama take a stand for human rights?

U.S. Presidents must make moral decisions for public policy on a regular basis. I pray to God that this country doesn’t elect a President that filters reality through the likes of beliefnet.com.
