Obama’s Palin strategy; Update

September 4th, 2008 by Republican By Default

It seems as though the Obama campaign’s response to the Palin nomination and acceptance speech might be to be nice to her, even defending her against the media. Is that it? Will it work?

Biden was on TV this morning and even when pressed to attack Sarah Palin he refused and defended her against the media attacks saying some were outrageous. Based on this and other comments it appears that is the campaign strategy.

Don’t be fooled, though, by a pretentious campaign strategy. From the moment she was announced as McCain’s running mate they were scrambling to find a way to attack her. Their initial responses were so bad they needed to pull back from it.

I wonder how far the campaign will go to stop the media from attacking their opponent. Will they go so far as to write a letter to the FEC (Federal Elections Commission) demanding that they stop? That’s what Obama did in an attempt to stop information about his ties to an unrepentant domestic terrorist named Bill Ayers. So, I’ll just sit quietly and wait for the letter to come out in the media. Hmm… so that’s what crickets sound like during a campaign.

Finally, I wonder how long it will last. I have no doubt that they will revert to their old ways. Biden is an attack dog. It’s probably a big reason for his selection as running mate. How long will it take before his teeth are bared and he attacks his opponent. That is the job of the running mate in most elections. The candidate appears to remain above it while the running mate rips the opponent to shreds. Sarah Palin will be doing her job, and doing it very effectively I might add.

My guess is that this strategy will last until they realize that it will backfire. They’ll either look like wimps that are afraid to offend women or their hypocrisy will surface and all of their pretention will be seen as the veneer that it is. I’ll give it a week, or more accurately a weekend. That’s just enough time for the trial balloon to become a lead balloon.

Update: Ok. I missed it a little bit. They’re still trying to be magnanimous, but they’ve also taken to whining. It seems that they think that Sarah Palin’s comments about community organizers were racist and belittling.  So are we also to assume that the community organizer job is as difficult as that of a mayor?  Are we also to assume that ‘community organizer’ is an ethnic role and that there are no white community organizers?
Also, have you noticed that the Obama campaign is having trouble defending against comparisons of their presidential candidate to the other party’s vice presidential candidate? Does this mean that they’ve given up comparing Barry to John McCain? Are they saying that their presidential candidate is better than the other vice presidential candidate but they’re afraid to compare him to the other presidential candidate? Pretty lame, if you ask me.
