Oprah - Not the equal-opportunity exploiter I thought she was

September 5th, 2008 by Republican By Default

Amazing. Oprah created the empty suit’s popularity but now doesn’t want her show to be political. She created the liberal obsession over Barry, but when the first woman GOP candidate for VP comes along she wants nothing to do with her. I guess her political bias trumps her support for women.

I’m not an Oprah fan. I think she’s bad for this country. She might do some good for some people but she also has done a lot of harm to a lot of people by making them feel ‘empowered’ about being a victim. As a Christian minister I’m all for people rising to their full potential, but not on the backs others who don’t deserve to be trampled.

I used to view Oprah as an equal opportunity exploiter. She will exploit anyone who makes themselves available to her. She has been behind some of the worst garbage to hit the airwaves in daytime TV.

The thing that bothers me the most about her is her exploitation of Christianity and the way she diminishes it to nothing more than a culture or even a sub-culture, focusing on the Gospel movement among Blacks in America. She has turned it into a source of ratings for her daytime talk show while demonstrating a lack of understanding and reverence for the Lord by also promoting practices and religions that are completely contrary to His Word.

Now I can see that equal opportunity isn’t part of Oprah’s values. She made Barry a pop ‘icon’ but she’s afraid to do it for Sarah Palin.

It’s fine that she’s refusing to invite her to appear on her show. It’s her show and she can do as she chooses. But she may not like the consequences. Consider this blog entry at NewsBusters.org, “Us Magazine Hit Hard by Canceling Subscribers After Palin Attack.” Does Oprah really want to lose viewers and subscribers by showing that her political bias trumps her ‘empowerment’ of women?

Here’s more from Drudge:

OPRAH’S STATEMENT: “The item in today’s Drudge Report is categorically untrue. There has been absolutely no discussion about having Sarah Palin on my show. At the beginning of this Presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates. I agree that Sarah Palin would be a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on after the campaign is over.”

BIG DILEMMA: OPRAH BALKS AT HOSTING SARAH PALIN; STAFF DIVIDED
Fri Sep 05 2008 08:55:46 ET

Oprah Winfrey may have introduced Democrat Barack Obama to the women of America — but the talkshow queen is not rushing to embrace the first woman on a Republican presidential ticket!

Oprah’s staff is sharply divided on the merits of booking Sarah Palin, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

“Half of her staff really wants Sarah Palin on,” an insider explains. “Oprah’s website is getting tons of requests to put her on, but Oprah and a couple of her top people are adamantly against it because of Obama.”

One executive close to Winfrey is warning any Palin ban could ignite a dramatic backlash!

It is not clear if Oprah has softened her position after watching Palin’s historic convention speech.

Last year, Winfrey blocked an appearance by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, timed to a promotional tour of his autobiography.

Oprah and executive producer Sheri Salata, who has contributed thousands of dollars to Obama’s campaign, refused requests for comment.

Let them know you are NOT happy with them supporting politically biased shows like Oprah!

I ‘approved’ the above comment for information purposes. I think it’s important to let these businesses know that you don’t approve of their choices in advertising venues.

If you contact them please be courteous. You’ll be contacting people who do not make the decisions so they don’t deserve rough treatment.

However, I think the best way to get the point across is to just change the channel on your TV. When Oprah’s ratings drop they’ll get the message. But so will Oprah. I’m sure if the ratings drop enough she’ll ‘remake’ herself and cut out the politics altogether instead of engaging in punditry.

  3. JONI Says:

Oprah is not interviewing Joe Biden either. So what’s the big deal!!!!

  4. Republican By Default Says:

The big deal is: a) Oprah created Barry’s recognition and initial popularity, so her show is a candidate forum, and b) she claims to be ‘empowering’ to women, but when an empowered woman comes along who doesn’t fit her political bias she ignores and/or rejects her.

Oprah is a hypocrite. She’s not for women, she uses women to advance her political agenda or increase her personal wealth. Her show is a candidate forum but only for the candidates she likes.
