Evidence of disgraced US Attorney’s failures surfaces

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

The US Attorney who was fired by the Bush administration was recently asked to speak at a luncheon in Tacoma. While this was troubling to me at the time, I said nothing. Now we can see more of what he should have done to combat fraud in the 2004 gubernatorial election in Washington.

The Evergreen Freedom Foundation has been staying on top of the issue since the beginning. They’ve just released a letter that they obtained in a FOIA request (which the Justice Department took 9 months to fill) which McKay, the disgraced US Attorney, sent to the Department of Justice. What’s revealing in the letter is that his office basically admits that fraud occurred, but because it couldn’t be proved that it influenced the outcome of the election, his office wouldn’t investigate.

Does that mean that election fraud is all right as long as it doesn’t change anything? Or does it mean that it’s right or wrong depending on which party is helped by it?

Tacoma Recruiter Protests

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

It’s time for the city of Tacoma to stand up to these thugs. Tacoma’s track record stinks. Will they do as much to protect the military as they’re doing to keep Russell? What are they going to do about this?

The people of Tacoma love having the bases here. Tacoma has a rich military heritage that cannot be forgotten. Many active and retired military personnel call our city home and we need to show them our respect and support.

Here are some things the City of Tacoma can and should do:

Conservatives won’t roll over and die

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

After having another experience with the left side of the Republican party in Washington state yesterday, there’s this piece (Conservatives Told they Must Throw Away Principles) on Newsbusters.org.

If conservatives mean to make their ideas and policies meaningful in the party again, there has to be some reason for the rest of the party to take them seriously. If conservatives are going to loudly proclaim their druthers yet meekly vote for apostates to those ideas anyway, not a single candidate will have any reason to expect that conservatives are serious with their ideas in the first place. Conservatives will become the boy who cried wolf. Winning is nice, but if there is no consequences for politicians who eschew conservative principles, eventually there won’t be any reason to even mouth conservative principles — even if only to ignore them later.

Someone in the comments said that conservatives lost the party in 2004. I think that statement is wrong. I believe that conservatives made a statement in 2006 that wasn’t heard. Many sat home and didn’t vote, not because of a few scandals, but because Bush and the Republican congress didn’t deliver on their promises from 2004.

Toxic Environmentalism; Update: EPA Warning

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

Are we willing to dump tons of toxic materials into landfills and into the air every year to prevent the sky from falling (anthropogenic global warming)? With the big push to switch to compact fluorescent replacement bulbs it wasn’t long before the obvious conflict would arise.

Every compact fluorescent bulb has about 5 milligrams of mercury in it. One problem is that they break, releasing mercury vapor into the air. Another is that while 5 milligrams is a small amount, when multiplied by the 300,000,000 that were sold last year in the US, that adds up to about 1.65 tons that will be introduced into the environment when those bulbs are thrown out. Most of that ends up in landfills, but some of it is burned in incinerators and released into the air.

Just how clean is the voter list in Pierce County?

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

An article in the News Tribune seems to indicate that Pierce County Auditor Pat McCarthy is doing the work and protecting the people of Pierce County from vote fraud. But it turns out there’s more to the story.

The Evergreen Freedom Foundation, a conservative think-tank and government watchdog, gives a brief summary of what happened behind the scenes.

“Kudos should go to the Building Industry Association of Washington, who kept after McCarthy to review the 1,400 registrations cards filed in Pierce County at the same time by ACORN. BIAW Executive Vice-President Tom McCabe noticed that many of the registrations were from the same address, the Tacoma Rescue Mission. McCabe checked with Mission staff, and when they didn’t recognize the names he tipped off McCarthy and the county prosecutor about the discrepancy.”

A few questions about Richard Florida

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

Last week I read this in the Business Examiner Daily:

“This discussion arrives, ironically, on the heels of a year-long effort led by the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber to create just such an environment using models popularized by economic pundit Richard Florida.”

Having never heard the name I decided to find out a little about this guy and his ‘models’. Since his ideas may be used in shaping our city government’s policies, it’s important to me to be an informed voter. I haven’t done thorough research (that would require reading his books and looking into his seminars) what I’m commenting on here is only the questions that came to mind as I looked into all of this.

Are his ideas based in sound scientific and statistical analysis of the subject?

Fred Thompson

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

Consider this a formal endorsement for Fred Thompson for President in 2008.

The reasons that I’m endorsing Fred are simple:

  • He’s established himself and proven himself as a conservative.
  • He’s the only statesman in the race.
  • He’s behaving himself like a grown-up.
  • He has more foreign policy experience than anyone else (with the possible exception of McCain, which is based mainly on his military service, who isn’t really a conservative.)
  • His ‘negatives’, when fully understood, are not of major concern to me.

More later.
