Memorial Day

Monday, May 26th, 2008

I just want to take a moment in grateful remembrance of those who have fallen in defense of our country and our freedom. For those who have loved ones who have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep all of us free and safe I hope you know that most Americans share the gratitude and the sorrow for your loss.

They will not be forgotten.

As a Christian minister I am keenly aware that those who have fought and are fighting to defend us are protecting each individual’s freedom to worship as each believes to be right. The freedom that I consider so vital is protected by those who have defended our country in the past and especially by those who are fighting in the War on Terrorism and it’s front lines in Afghanistan and Iraq..

Like enemies of the past our current enemies seek world domination. But what’s unique about these is that they do so in the name of their religion. Their religion seeks to subjugate or destroy all other faiths. I don’t know of a time in our nation’s history when freedom of religion was at greater risk.

While the freedom of religion is especially important to me, I am also grateful for all of the other freedoms that I enjoy.

They don’t speak for me

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

It appears that yet another group of liberals is trying to claim that they speak for conservatives. The Republican party if full of those, from John McCain, as de facto head of the party that’s supposed to represent us (who told us to calm down), to the Western Washington Republican party leaders who call themselves ‘conservatives’ while work against religious conservatives (who usually make or break Republican campaigns).

This latest attempt is from the religious left. A group calling themselves ‘Evangelicals leaders’ is claiming that ‘Evangelicals’ are tired of politics creeping into their faith. This is just plain wrong in so many ways.

Is there hope for her destiny?

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Miley Cyrus, singer and actress known for her role as ‘Hannah Montana’ in the Disney conglomerate, is the most recent victim of the exploitation from the entertainment industry.

The vultures at Vanity Fair sent their sleazy photographer Annie Leibovitz to shoot Miss Cyrus for an upcoming issue. As per usual, Leibovitz tried to get the sleaziest shots she possibly could. The magazine released the photos in their never-ending quest to sell magazines and magazine ads.

Is this the beginning of the end for yet another young pop star? Is she on the same road as Lindsey Lohan and Britney Spears?

It turns out that ‘Miley’ is a nickname given to her by her father, country singer and actor Billy Ray Cyrus. She was born ‘Destiny Hope Cyrus’, a name chosen by her father because of a ‘vision’ he had of his daughter when she was born. He said of the name that “it’s her destiny to bring hope to many…”

Is it now her destiny to bring hope to paparazzi and tabloid magazines?

Liberals should stay away from the Bible; Update: Hillary

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been quoting the Bible. Well not actually quoting. And, well, not actually the Bible.

What she’s been saying is, “The Bible tells us in the Old Testament, ‘To minister to the needs of God’s creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us.’” (More over at MichelleMalkin.com.)

The word ‘minister’ simply means ’serve’, so Nancy is telling us to serve created things. And is it an act of worship? Probably, but not one that is worshiping God. When you worship God, you worship God, not the things He created. But since she was ambiguous about who or what was is being worshiped, maybe she was telling the truth. Maybe she meant ’serving created things is also worshiping created things’.

Hypocrite spoke at Pierce County GOP Convention

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Terry Bergeson, WA State Superintendent of Public Instruction, spoke at the Pierce County GOP Convention on Saturday. Now we find out that she approved an effort to bring children from public schools in 25 counties to see the Dalai Lama. When asked whether she would do the same for the Pope, her response was:

[Essex] PORTER: Would the Superintendent of Public Instruction urge schools to bring kids to the Pope?

[Terry] BERGESON: Well, I probably couldn’t get away with that as the Pope, Essex. But the Dalai Lama is a man of the whole world.

Radio talk show host Dori Monson talked with Bergeson about the issue. Give it a listen. She tries to make a distinction between the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Buddhists, and the Pope, spiritual leader of Roman Catholics. But as she does she describes Dalai Lama’s efforts as religious in nature, bringing our hearts, minds and spirits together to bring more compassion.

USA Today blames Conservative Christians…

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

In an opinion piece in USA Today the writer blames the Republican Party’s association with conservative Christians (one of the main reasons) for the GOP losing young voters. And, of course, liberal Republicans buy the lie.

It’s beginning to sound like a broken record. Oh, I’m sorry, the ‘youth’ won’t know what a record is.

Remember that this is an opinion piece, not a study or a survey. And it’s posted on a liberal, dead-tree rag’s Web site as they try to reach a younger crowd that never had ink-stained fingers from trying to understand the world around them.

What are the other reasons given in the piece?

Young people react to the success or failure of the first politicians they know. The twentysomethings of the 1980s, for example, associated the Democratic Party with the malaise of Jimmy Carter — and the GOP with the triumphs of Ronald Reagan.

Apparently, the writer thinks that ‘young people’ are too stupid to think for themselves. They’re just dumb animals with limited higher brain functions. All they can do is follow their first emotional reaction.

Abuse and domestic violence

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

I’ve been trying to find the right time to approach this issue on 5views.com. With the changes that I’ve mentioned are coming, I think it’s best if I take the time to spell out where I stand on the issue. Generally speaking, as a white, male, conservative Christian minister I am considered an enemy by the more extreme elements of the Domestic Violence (DV) industry. People like me are usually misrepresented to a point that comparisons to Hitler are not uncommon. So it’s important that I speak for myself rather than let others define what I believe about the subject.

If you’ve noticed the ad on the site and wondered, the answer is yes, I am the author. It’s a book that I wrote back in the 90’s, self-published as an e-book in 2004 and took to print in 2007 (also self-published). This post is to give some background on the subject and a little bit on why I got involved with the subject.

The main reason that I got involved in the issue is that I am a Christian minister and I feel that this is part of my calling. But like any human being on the face of the Earth, I have been exposed to abuses, either directly or indirectly. That, too, contributed to my interest in the subject. However, I will say that my approach is ‘unorthodox’ when compared to the mainstream of the Domestic Violence Industry. And that’s a good thing.

Parkland church gets cold shoulder

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

An old school building that was purchased by a local church a few months ago is back on the market. I’m still piecing it together, but there seems to be a lot of misinformation about it in the public eye.

A blog post on Exit133.com (Rogers Elementary Back on the Market) and the comments that followed gave the impression that a church made a low-ball offer so they could flip the property. If it were true I probably would have applauded the church for their creative effort to bring in some income while helping the community. But that doesn’t seem to be the case. What they were trying to do was to move their church. Hardly the heinous things they’re being accused of doing.

There was enough in that blog post and a linked article to indicate to me that the issue was not the way it was portrayed. So I did the unthinkable. I called the church. Yes, that’s right. Instead of giving in to the usual hysteria about how Christians are trying to take over the world and control everyone and their uterus (if they have one), I decided to get the facts. It turns out that the church was neither trying to flip the property, nor where they opening a homeless shelter.
